In this series of work, it depicts females in what they considered as uncomfortable places. These places consist of masculine qualities and can be seen through the poses they are in. The poses are for them to show confidence in these spaces where females are not most likely to be seen in. In these photos, I used a higher ISO to create a grittiness because in society’s view females should be seen perfect and flawless. The inspiration for this project was Scarlett Coten’s, Plan americain, and Cindy Sherman’s Untitled Film Stills. From Scarlett Coten’s series, the artist is exploring a way of reimagining masculinity in a different way society does not see males. Looking at Cindy Sherman’s work she explored spaces and that society views as the woman’s place, such as the kitchen. While working on this project, the models chose a space they felt was uncomfortable and for them to show their confidence in those spaces. This can be seen through their posture and how they have an intense gaze to share an experience with the viewer.
